MediaTek Launches Dimensity 9400+ With Enhanced CPU and AI Capabilities; Oppo Find X8s First to Debut Chipset

TAIPEI, April 12 MediaTek has officially launched its latest flagship mobile chipset, the Dimensity 9400+, an upgraded version of last year’s Dimensity 9400. The new SoC features a faster CPU core, improved NPU performance, and extended Bluetooth range, positioning it as a compelling option for next-gen Android smartphones.

Dimensity 9400+: Performance-Driven Upgrades

The Dimensity 9400+ continues with MediaTek’s All Big Core architecture, but introduces a higher clock speed on its primary Arm Cortex-X925 core, now running at 3.73GHz—a slight boost from the 3.63GHz on the Dimensity 9400. It also includes:

• Three Cortex-X4 cores

• Four Cortex-A720 cores

• LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage (MCQ) support

• Support for cameras up to 320 megapixels

In terms of graphics, the chip retains the 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 MC12 GPU, which already delivered flagship-level gaming and rendering performance.

AI and Connectivity Get a Boost

A significant highlight is the MediaTek NPU 890, which now features Speculative Decoding+ (SpD+), offering up to 20% faster agentic AI performance. This upgrade aims to enhance real-time generative AI applications and large language model (LLM) inference on mobile devices.

Connectivity upgrades include:

• Sub-6GHz 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0

• Expanded Bluetooth connectivity range up to 10km a massive jump from the 1.5km range offered by its predecessor

• Global GNSS support (GPS, BeiDou, Glonass, Galileo, QZSS, NavIC)

Availability and Partner Smartphones

Oppo is the first brand to adopt the Dimensity 9400+, with its Find X8s and Find X8s+ officially announced in China. These devices will be available for purchase next week and are expected to launch in international markets soon.

Other OEMs including Vivo and Realme are reportedly preparing to launch their own flagships—Vivo X200s and Realme GT7—powered by the new chipset later this month.

While the Dimensity 9400+ may appear to be an iterative upgrade, its combination of faster processing, enhanced AI features, and next-gen Bluetooth range positions it as a serious competitor in the flagship chipset market, particularly for AI-powered mobile applications and gaming.
