Monsoon Fury Continues: Heavy Rains Batter North India

Send Push

New Delhi, India – The relentless monsoon rains continue to wreak havoc across North India, leaving residents grappling with deteriorating weather conditions. Several regions in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir experienced intense rainfall overnight, leading to a significant drop in temperatures.

The Indian capital, Delhi, and its surrounding areas have also been under the influence of cloudy skies and intermittent drizzle. In the southern states, persistent showers have caused disruptions to daily life. Multiple districts of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan witnessed heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder.

IMD Predicts More Rain

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in the coming 24 hours, along with the possibility of thunderstorms. In Delhi, the recent rainfall caused temperatures to plummet by five degrees below normal. The city has been placed on a ‘yellow alert’ and is expected to experience more showers in the days ahead.

Rajasthan Braces for Rain

Eastern Rajasthan has been issued a rain warning for the next 24 hours. While light to moderate rainfall has been recorded in this region, western Rajasthan is expected to remain relatively dry. The IMD anticipates a weakening of the pressure area over Madhya Pradesh, potentially transforming into a low-pressure system.

Himachal Pradesh Struggles

In Himachal Pradesh, the incessant rainfall has brought road traffic to a complete standstill on 32 routes. Authorities have issued a ‘yellow alert’ for thunderstorms and thunderclouds until September 25.

Other States Affected

Several other states have also been placed under a heavy rain warning. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands can expect moderate to heavy rainfall. Other regions likely to experience heavy showers include Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Telangana. Light to moderate rainfall is predicted in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka. Bihar, Jharkhand, southeast Rajasthan, and Kerala may also receive light rain.
