Bengaluru: With monsoon gaining momentum across Karnataka, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall in the coastal and several interior districts till July 9.
An orange alert has been issued for eight districts on Thursday: Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, and Shivamogga.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert is in place for Bidar, Dharwad, and Kalaburagi. Isolated areas in Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts may receive very heavy rainfall on Thursday.
The IMD has also issued yellow alerts for three coastal districts and parts of Belagavi and Dharwad until July 9, indicating continuous moderate rainfall.
Heavy rainfall likely in seven districts
According to IMD scientist C S Patil, heavy rains are expected in Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Belagavi.
He added that Bengaluru is expected to receive moderate rainfall in some areas till July 5, while Mysuru, Davanagere, and Tumakuru districts may also witness moderate showers.
The current weather conditions are attributed to a trough over the eastern Arabian Sea, extending along the coastal regions of Maharashtra and Karnataka, resulting in widespread rain activity along the coast till July 5, Patil said.
