US House representative Anna Paulina Luna , a Florida Republican , reported receiving a "very serious shooting threat " at her office on Wednesday. This came shortly after the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his West Palm Beach golf club on Sunday, which led to the arrest of 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh.

Luna expressed concern that the "division and hate campaign against Republicans " could result in someone being killed. She vowed not to be "intimidated, or bow down to those using violence as a means to push their agenda,", saying, "We will win."

Luna said that in recent weeks, she has experienced an escalating number of threats and doxxing attacks, including an online page encouraging people to send threatening packages to her home. "This weekend, it escalated to a very serious shooting threat, and we are taking every necessary step to ensure the safety of my family, staff, and our district," she said in a post on X.

The representative criticized the left for promoting a "radical agenda of hate and rhetoric that leads to violence." "Just hours before this threat to my office, we saw how there was a second assassination attempt on President Trump's life. We will not be threatened or intimidated by those using violence to push their narrative and try and win an election," Luna added

Florida governor Ron DeSantis announced that Florida will conduct its own investigation into the assassination attempt on Trump, as he believes it is not in the state's best interest to have the same federal agencies seeking to prosecute Trump lead the investigation. DeSantis signed an executive order assigning the case to the office of statewide prosecutor, under the supervision of attorney general Ashley Moody.

The suspect in the Trump assassination attempt appeared in federal court on Monday and is being charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person (convicted felon) and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, according to the initial complaint. More charges are expected to follow.
