NEW DELHI: In yet another incident targeting an Indian national in Ireland’s capital, Dublin, a man was assaulted over the weekend by a group of teenagers, Irish news outlet The Journal reported.

The victim, who was attacked by three people around 5:30 pm on Sunday in Fairview Park, told the website about his ordeal and said he has already arranged his return to India in the coming days.
"I was walking home from the park when one of the group, while riding an electric scooter, kicked me in the stomach. As I tried to walk away, two others joined in the attack and started hitting me. I then fell to the ground and they continued to kick and punch me. One of them took his metal water bottle and hit me above the eye," he said.

He added that several bystanders were present but did not intervene. However, two male teenagers later came to his aid and called the police.
According to a police spokesperson, the matter is under investigation. The victim was taken to hospital, where he received eight stitches.
On Tuesday, Ireland’s President Michael D. Higgins condemned the recent attacks, some of which have been linked to racism. Describing them as “despicable,” Higgins expressed a “deep sense of gratitude” to the Indian community for “all they have added to Ireland.”

“Their presence, their work, their culture have been a source of enrichment and generosity to our shared life,” he said in a statement. “We are all mindful of the immense contribution this community has made, and continues to make, to so many aspects of Irish life. The recent attacks damage and corrode the most fundamental and enduring instincts of Irishness: those of hospitality, friendship, and care for others.”
As per the Ministry of External Affairs, Ireland is home to around 40,000 overseas Indians (15,000 NRIs and 25,000 PIOs). The European nation has a population of 5.15 million (51.5 lakh; Census 2022).
