We'll sink BJP's hatred vehicle to form govt in J&K: Farooq Abdullah

UDHAMPUR : National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah on Thursday accused BJP of spreading hatred and exuded confidence in winning J&K assembly polls to form a govt in the UT.

"We have to sink the vehicle of hatred and flag off the vehicle of love throughout the country. A new dawn against hatred will emerge from J&K,” the former CM told reporters after an election rally in Udhampur East for party candidate Sunil Verma.

He dismissed BJP's claim of forming the next govt in J&K. "They are building castles in the air. First, let us see who sweeps the elections… Have they won the hearts of the people of Jammu?”

Farooq refused to engage in a controversy stirred up by Pakistan defence minister Khawaja Asif, who said that Congress , NC, and Pakistan are on the same page regarding the restoration of Article 370 . "What can I say about what Pakistan says? I am not a Pakistani; I am an Indian citizen," he said, reiterating that his party would push for the restoration of Article 370 and Darbar Move, the biannual shift of the state capital between Jammu and Srinagar.

Responding to PM Narendra Modi 's assertion that the dynastic politics of NC, Congress, and PDP destroyed J&K, the NC chief questioned the release of hardcore terrorists in exchange for the hijacked 814 Indian Airlines passengers in 1999 and for abducted Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of then Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, in 1989.

Farooq also opposed “one nation, one election” plan. "How will it work? Let the Centre explain in Parliament what it means by this. How will it maintain the federal structure?" he said.
