NEW DELHI: The Vigilance Department on Friday arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Punjab, Raman Arora , in a corruption case .
The MLA was arrested hours after the Vigilance Department conducted raids at the house in Jalandhar.
VB sleuths reached his place around 10 am and searched his place. Arora's security cover was completely withdrawn on May 13. Since then, there were speculations about his fate.
No reason was put in the public domain by the state government or the police authorities for such a drastic decision about a ruling party MLA.
The Vigilance Bureau arresting Sukhdev Vashisht , an Assistant Town Planner (ATP) with the Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, on May 14 for demanding a bribe of Rs 30,000, gave a further push to the speculations.
Arora had 14 gunmen, 10 more than the usual limit of four for an MLA.
However, on May 13 not even a single gunman was left with him. On that day, he said he was told there were orders from above, and he then sent all of them back. The episode had also brought attention to the practice of deploying extra security personnel with ruling party leaders.
