NEW DELHI: A woman professor was found dead with injuries at her residence in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur city on Friday morning.
The police are investigating the case of the 55-year-old as a case of unnatural death.
The deceased was identified as Pragya Agrawal , who was a professor at the Government Home Science College .
Her body was discovered around 10 am by a domestic help who arrived at her house in the Amber Vihar locality under the jurisdiction of Garha police station.
According to additional superintendent of police Suryakant Sharma, Agrawal was found lying in a pool of blood. “She was unmarried and lived alone,” he was quoted as saying to news agency PTI.
The official said there was a deep cut on her right wrist, along with a smaller injury on her neck. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and have begun a detailed probe into the matter. Forensic teams have collected evidence from the spot.
City superintendent of police (Garha) Ashish Jain noted that while the early signs suggest suicide, investigators are waiting for the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death. “The preliminary findings suggest suicide, but the exact cause of death will be ascertained once the autopsy report arrives,” he said.
Officers have begun questioning people known to Agrawal to piece together the events leading to her death. Authorities are also reviewing any possible evidence that might help clarify whether the injuries were self-inflicted or the result of foul play.
