RG Kar tragedy: Indian Medical Association holds hunger strike

Chennai: The state wing of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) took part in a 12-hour nationwide hunger strike on Tuesday to express solidarity with young doctors fasting in West Bengal following the rape and murder of a young doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. At least 100 doctors sat on a fast at the IMA headquarters in Tambaram from 6 am. Besides Chennai, doctors from Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Vellore, Kanchipuram, Trichy, Erode, Coimbatore and Madurai also went on a fast. "We want justice for the doctor who died. All medical college and hospitals should ensure safety for doctors and medicos," said IMA state president Dr Abul Hasan.
