NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday took charge as the new Assam Congress president . The MP is set to lead the party in state assembly polls in 2026.
The state unit unanimously backed Gaurav's elevation as PCC president, acknowledging his leadership abilities and strong academic background.
The 42-year-old, a three-time Lok Sabha MP—twice from Kaliabor and now representing Jorhat—is seen as a close confidant of Rahul Gandhi and currently holds the position of Congress deputy leader in the House.
Echoing the legacy of his father, Tarun Gogoi, known for his steadfast loyalty to the Gandhi family, Gaurav has recently drawn praise for his impactful speeches in Parliament, especially during debates on the Manipur crisis .
He holds a BTech from Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering (2004) and a master’s degree from the Robert F Wagner Graduate School at New York University (2010), adding to his credentials as a capable and well-rounded leader.
