Send Push
NEW DELHI: Centre on Thursday declared Hizb-ut-Tahrir - found to be active in Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, etc, through modules inspired by its violent ideology aimed at motivating youths to establish an Islamic State/Caliphate by waging jihad - as a "terrorist organisation" under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

The ban notification said HuT aims to establish Islamic State globally, including in India, by overthrowing the democratically-elected govts through terrorist activities. Terming it as a grave threat, the home ministry said HuT is involved in the radicalisation and motivation of gullible youth to join terrorist organisations. Citing HuT role in conspiracy to carry out terrorist acts across India, the MHA said it was exercising its powers under UAPA to include "HuT and all its manifestations and front organisations' in First Schedule of the Act that lists terrorist outfits.
