The toll in the hooch tragedy in Siwan and Saran districts in Bihar has risen to 35, with eight more deaths confirmed on Friday, even as two deaths were reported in Baikunthpur in adjoining Gopalganj district due to consumption of spurious liquor . Six from this area have been hospitalised, reports Kshitiz.
Gopalganj SP Avadhesh Dixit confirmed that the two deaths were linked to consumption of illicit liquor. "Police and excise officials have conducted raids at more than 200 locations in search of liquor mafias , seizing over 400 litres of country liquor and 5,000 litres of raw material used in producing spurious liquor. During these raids, 15 people were arrested," Dixit said. Saran district administration officially reported a total of seven deaths while authorities in Siwan confirmed 28 fatalities. Baikunthpur shares its borders with Gopalganj, Siwan and Saran districts.
