NXT Champion Takes A Jab At WWE Star CM Punk

Send Push
CM Punk has undoubtedly been one of the most regularly ridiculed characters in the WWE locker room since making his comeback to the company last year. The most notable example of this is Drew McIntyre, who has elevated trolling to the level of an art form. Punk has frequently been made fun of by McIntyre, who makes references to his bracelet, his time in AEW, and even his actual problems with Jack Perry. It appears that NXT Champion Ethan Page , a former AEW teammate of Punk, has also chosen to partake in the fun.

Wednesday morning, Ethan Page posted a picture of himself signing an autograph for Tyrese Haliburton, a star point guard for the Indiana Pacers who, like Punk, appeared on the previous night's edition of NXT. In his post, Page humorously wrote, "the fans at the airports are getting to be obnoxious," before sarcastically pleading with fans to "respect the talent's privacy."

Initially, it appears as though Page and Haliburton are teasing one other. Fans who have been observing closely, though, have probably realized that this is a subtly humorous reference to something that CM Punk posted on his Instagram Story a few days ago. Within that post, Punk discussed an awkward encounter he had with a fan on the way to Portland, Oregon for Raw. According to Punk, the fan had repeatedly asked for an autograph, despite being told no several times. Punk had asked for fans to "respect boundaries and privacy" - phrasing quite similar to the words Ethan Page used in his own post about Haliburton.

Page may have had some motivation for his lighthearted hit against Punk. By declaring that he will serve as the special guest referee for Page's impending title defense against Trick Williams on the premiere episode of NXT on The CW, CM Punk recently became involved in Page's business on NXT. That episode will take place in Punk's hometown of Chicago, Illinois, which should add to the intrigue. Page's trolling is unlikely to gain him much favor with Punk, and it will be interesting to see whether their lighthearted banter causes any further friction between them.
