NBA Trade Rumors: Golden State Warriors eyeing $20 million Chicago Bulls star to bolster squad around Stephen Curry and improve Championship odds

Send Push
The Golden State Warriors face a crucial decision regarding Jonathan Kuminga ’s future this offseason. Reports suggest they may trade the young forward, potentially acquiring Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball in a multi-team deal.

Why the Golden State Warriors Might Move On from Jonathan Kuminga

Jonathan Kuminga’s tenure with the Golden State Warriors has been a mix of promise and inconsistency. While he showcased his potential with a 20.8-point-per-game performance against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the playoffs, the franchise may still explore trade options.

Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus believes a sign-and-trade could be the most logical path: "Golden State can try to retain him (Kuminga) on his one-year $8 million qualifying offer, but that path limits the team's ability to trade him, and an incoming franchise wouldn't have his rights after a deal. Sign-and-trade gives closure and doesn't put Kuminga in a position to play for a team that didn't value him enough to reward him with the salary he believes he deserves." (H/t Sporting News)

Proposed Three-Team Trade Details

According to Pincus’ proposal, the trade would involve the Warriors, Chicago Bulls , and Charlotte Hornets:

Lonzo Ball’s Rocky NBA Journey

Once hailed as a future star, Lonzo Ball’s career has been derailed by injuries and inconsistency. Drafted No. 2 overall by the Lakers in 2017, he struggled to meet expectations in Los Angeles.

Key issues during his Lakers tenure:

- Shot below 35% from three-point range

- Failed to establish himself as a reliable scorer

- Traded to New Orleans in the Anthony Davis deal

Despite showing improvement as a shooter (hitting 35% or better from deep in three separate seasons), Ball’s biggest hurdle has been health. Since 2019, he has played only 188 regular-season games due to recurring injuries.

Could Lonzo Ball Fit with the Golden State Warriors?

Pincus argues that Lonzo Ball’s skill set aligns well with Golden State’s system:

"(Lonzo) Ball has struggled to stay healthy but is an incredible fit alongside the Warriors' stars. He plays defense, moves the ball, and can catch and shoot."

If the Warriors prioritize defense and playmaking over Kuminga’s scoring upside, this trade could make sense. However, Ball’s injury history remains a significant risk.

The Warriors must weigh Kuminga’s potential against the immediate benefits of adding a proven playmaker like Ball. With draft picks and additional role players included, this trade could reshape Golden State’s roster for next season.
