Radha Ashtami 2024: Significance

Radha Ashtami holds an immense religious significance in Hindu religion as this day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Shri Radha Rani. People celebrate this day with great zeal and happiness. They offer prayers to the Goddess and seek blessings. It is believed that Goddess Radha was an incarnation of Mata Laxmi. Radha Ashtami festival occurs exact 15 days after the festival of Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. She descended on earth 5000 years ago and took birth in Barsana.

Radha Ji was born to mother Kirti and father Vrishbhanu. According to some legends, it is believed that she was an adopted by Virshbhanu and Kirti. Radha Ashtami is also celebrated as Radha Jayanti . This festival is mainly celebrated in North India with great grandeur. People visit various temples to offer their prayers to Goddess Radha and seek blessings of the Goddess.

Radha Ashtami 2024: Rituals

1. Devotees wake up early in the morning (Brahm Muhurat) and take a holy bath before commencing puja rituals.
2. Clean your house and Puja Room.
3. Take a wooden plank and place an idol of Radha Krishna after giving bath to them from Panchamrit.
4. Adorn the idols with flowers, beautiful clothes, and jewellery.
5. Light a diya with desi ghee, offer various types of bhog prasad, fruits and sweets.
6. Offer shringar items to Goddess Radha Rani and seek blessings.
7. Recite different Vedic mantras and hymns to invoke the idol. Chanting Radha Gayatri Mantra is considered highly meritorious.
8. People visit Radha Krishna temple and offer prayers to Goddess Radha.
9. Fast observers can break their fast in the evening after offering bhog prasad to the Goddess.
10. Distribute the bhog prasad among family members, relatives and friends.
11. Many devotees organize bhajan and kirtan and food stalls for needy people.
12. Feeding poor people and doing charity on this day is considered highly meritorious.
