Radha Ashtami 2024: Significance


Radha Ashtami has a great religious significance among Hindus. Devotees of Radha Rani celebrate this day with immense joy and happiness and also with deep faith. On this auspicious day, devotees observe fast and offer prayers to Radha Rani and the beloved of Lord Krishna. Radha Rani was born to father Vrishbhanu and Mother Kirti. According to legends, it is believed that she was an incarnation of Goddess Laxmi. Devotees celebrate her birthday with great pomp and show. This festival is celebrated mainly in North India.

Radha Ashtami 2024: Vrat Vidhi

Bathing: On this auspicious day people first get up early and take holy bath.
Sankalp: They take sankalp of observing fast with full devotion and purity.
Giving Bath: Devotees first take an idol of Goddess Radha and Lord Krishna and then give bath to the idol with panchamrit.
Clothes: Adorn the idol with beautiful clothes and jewellery.
Light diya: Devotees take a cow ghee and light a diya in an earthen pot.
Offerings: People offer various food items, shringar and other things to Goddess Radha.
Chanting Mantras: They chant various mantras to invoke the idol and worship with devotion.
Bhog Prasad: Devotees prepare various types of bhog to offer Radha Ji.
Aarti: Once they are one with puja and chanting mantras, they perform Aarti to Radha Rani and seek blessings.
Fast Breaking: After observing fast for whole day, devotees can break their fast in the evening and have sattvik food recommended for fast.

How to observe Radha Ashtami Fast?

Devotees are advised to observe Radha Ashtami fast with full devotion and make sure your intentions and feelings are pure for Radha Rani. When the fast is observed then there are certain things which you should keep in your mind such as:

1. Keep fast with pure intentions and have deep faith towards the Goddess.
2. One should always maintain celibacy while observing the fast as fasting is something which is related to the chakras, creating balance, achieving spiritual enlightenment.
3. You should opt for sattvik lifestyle and fasting always helps to purify your body mind and soul.
4. Either you should be silent whole day or chanting mantras and if you can not do these things, you can read some holy scriptures so that your focus should be there only and it will help you to become more focused and aligned.
5. Do not get involved in any type of tamasik activity as it will ruin your fast.
6. You must feel close to Radha Rani when you are fasting for her, and listening her stories, reading about her and reciting Radha Ashtakam, which will make you feel closer to the divine power.
7. Once you take sankalp of observing fast then do not break the fast in the mid.
