Nagpur: A domestic feud turned deadly at Dhapewada, about 22 km from Nagpur, where a 33-year-old man allegedly shot his elder brother at point-blank range in front of family members on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Inderjit Singh Bhonde. Police said the accused, Jagjit Singh Bhonde, was assaulted by locals after the incident and is currently undergoing treatment. He will be arrested once discharged from the hospital. Their mother, Bishan Kaur, has also been named a co-accused for allegedly abetting the crime.
According to police, Jagjit, a habitual drinker, frequently created disturbances at home and often demanded money from Inderjit. He also accused Inderjit and his wife of stealing a gold ornament belonging to his daughter, repeatedly pressuring them to return it.
On Wednesday, another heated argument broke out over the issue. Sources said a heavily intoxicated Jagjit retrieved a family-owned Bharmar rifle from a room and threatened to kill Inderjit. Shockingly, their mother reportedly instigated Jagjit, encouraging him to shoot his brother. In a fit of rage, Jagjit shot Inderjit at close range. The crude cartridge, packed with splinters and nails, caused severe injuries all over Inderjit's body, leading to his death on the spot.
Saoner SDPO (Probationary IPS) Anil Mhaske said the accused was overpowered and beaten by residents before being taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment. "A forensic van was deployed for on-site investigation. Evidence and statements were collected using the e-Sakshya app," Mhaske added. An FIR has been registered at the Saoner police station, and further investigation is underway.
