Nagpur: The Gittikhadan police arrested a 26-year-old man for bludgeoning his 34-year-old woman friend, Hemlata Vaidya, with an iron rod in Dabha on Tuesday. She was declared dead on Wednesday at Mayo Hospital. The accused, Akshay Date, a resident of Hinganghat, was taken into custody from Amravati on Wednesday.
Cops said that Date was upset after seeing Vaidya talking to another male at her office, prompting him to perpetrate the attack. The police collected CCTV footage of the murder. The victim, Vaidya, a widow and mother of an 11-year-old girl, was attacked with an iron rod while she was at her workplace, a builder's office in Dabha. She suffered serious injuries to her head and was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where her condition was reported to be critical.
According to police, Date and Vaidya were in a relationship for the past three years. However, the relationship soured recently, and Vaidya distanced herself from the accused. Vaidya lost her husband during the Covid-19 pandemic and was single-handedly raising her daughter. She lived in Wadi, while Date also resided in the vicinity, making it easier for him to monitor her movements.
