BRTS corridor to be dismantled from next wk after fin dept nod

Jaipur: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) will dismantle BRTS corridor from next week after securing clearance from the state finance department. The process to dismantle the corridor will begin on Sikar Road.

According to a JDA official, "We have already closed the corridor between Crossing No. 9 and Crossing No. 12 on Sirsi Road. From next week, we would start removing the corridor. The Ambabari and Vidhyadhar Nagar stretch of the proposed Metro Line 2 is scheduled to come up over this corridor."

The removal work on Sikar Road is expected to take three months, resulting in an additional seven and a half metres of space on the main carriageway for vehicular movement. Officials indicated that the size of the median on Sikar Road will be 3.8 metre, while on other city stretches, after the BRTS corridors are removed, the medians will measure between 3.25 and 3.5 metre.

Implementation of the corridor originally cost the state government Rs 170 crores. JDA now plans to allocate Rs 30 crores for its removal. An official remarked, "It costs Rs 170 crores for the state govt to implement the corridor. Now JDA would spend Rs 30 crores to remove the corridor. In addition, the finance department may have to bear the centre's contribution to this project with interest for withdrawing the BRTS. The union govt has contributed 50% of the project under JNNURM scheme."
