Nashik: Over Rs8 lakh in cash and valuables were stolen in two separate thefts reported in the city on Thursday and Friday.
In the first case, registered with the Gangapur police, a complainant reported Rs1.5 lakh in Rs500 notes stolen from his office in D'Souza Colony between Wednesday and Thursday. The thief broke the latch and lock to gain entry.
In the second incident, registered with the Adgaon police, over Rs7.2 lakh worth of cash, jewellery, and sarees were stolen. The family had locked their house before leaving for Pimpalgaon court on Thursday. Between 11am and 5:30 pm, an unidentified person broke the entrance door lock and escaped with Rs6 lakh in cash and valuables worth Rs1.2 lakh.
Police investigations are underway in both cases.
"A large number of thefts are reported daily, but the detection rate remains between 25–30%. Deployment of security guards and putting up CCTVs is extremely important," said senior police officers.
