Nashik: A moving car caught fire on the Dwarka flyover around 10pm on Friday night. A fire tender was sent promptly after the Shingada Talav fire centre received a call about the incident.

Senior fire department officials confirmed that no one was injured.

According to police, the sedan was heading from Pimpalgaon to Mumbai when the driver noticed smoke coming out of the bonnet. The driver immediately pulled the car to the side of the road and, along with four passengers, exited the vehicle. Within minutes, the car was engulfed in flames.

"Around 10pm, the Shingada Talav fire centre received a call, after which one fire tender was rushed to the spot," a fire official said. The blaze was brought under control within a few minutes, but the car was completely destroyed.

This was the third major fire incident reported between Thursday night and Friday evening. Late on Thursday night, a fire broke out at a plywood godown on Tapovan Road, destroying plywood sheets and other materials worth crores. Another fire started at a furniture store along the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar road on Friday evening, requiring seven fire tenders to extinguish the flames.

Fire brigade officials said, "Fire incidents are common during the summer." While the exact causes of all three incidents are still under investigation, officials said that "fire incidents due to electrical short circuits are common during the summer."

A fireman said, soon after getting the call, we reached the fire spot in a matter of a couple of minutes. Seeing the flames around the car, a large number of motorists had stopped their respective vehicles at a good distance from the fire spot.

On reaching the spot, we doused the fire in a matter of a few minutes. However, it seemed that the damage to the car was beyond repair, and fortunately, there was no injury to anyone in the incident.
