Man held for raping stepdaughter

Surat: Amroli police on Friday arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter over the past three years. The police action came after the girl's mother approached police.

According to the police sources, the man had married the woman, who was widowed, four years ago. They jointly ran a food establishment. The woman's daughter from a previous marriage lived with them.

On April 13, the girl and the man suddenly disappeared from the house. The mother, suspecting abduction, reported the matter to Amroli police. Through mobile tracking, police located the man and the girl in Ahmedabad and apprehended them.

During counselling by police, the girl disclosed that her stepfather had been sexually abusing her for the past three years and had also been threatening to kill her. Police said the man planned to take the girl to his native place in UP via Ahmedabad.

Police have booked the accused for rape and violation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Further investigation is underway.
