Agra: Days after the brutal rape in Rampur of an 11-year-old girl, another gruesome incident has come to light in UP —this time in Agra's Kheragarh sub-division where a 12-year-old Dalit girl, asleep at home, was allegedly abducted and raped by a neighbour in the early hours of Friday.

Police said the accused—a confectioner—abducted the girl from her house between 1-2 am, took her to a secluded location outside the village, and violated her. Despite the ordeal, the child managed to return home and tell her father, a daily wage labourer, about the incident. The two then went to Kheragarh police station to report the crime. An FIR was subsequently filed.

Initial investigation revealed that the girl had been sleeping on a cot when the accused approached her. She woke up and tried to raise an alarm but was gagged with a cloth. CCTV footage shows the accused taking the girl away. A case has been registered under BNS section 64(2) (rape), along with relevant sections of the SC/ST Act and the Pocso Act.

DCP Atul Sharma said, "We have identified the accused (in early 30s) based on CCTV footage, and three teams have been constituted to arrest him. We will ensure a chargesheet is filed soon and he gets the maximum punishment possible. We have sent the girl for medical examination."

A police officer involved in the investigation told TOI, "After the incident, the forensic team collected blood stains from the scene. The accused, who lives in the same neighbourhood, was allegedly helped by members of his community in fleeing. Further investigation is on."
