'Animal Fat' In Tirupati Laddus: Amul Says It Never Supplied Ghee To Andhra Temple

New Delhi: Amid rumours floating on social media following the controversy surrounding the "laddus" served at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), Amul has issued a clarification that it never supplied ghee to the Andhra Pradesh temple. The company's statement comes after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu accused the previous administration under YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of using substandard ingredients, including animal fat, in making the sacred Tirupati laddus.“We wish to clarify that Amul has never supplied ghee to TTD,” the company said in a statement released on September 20. The company also highlighted that the ghee made by Amul is of high quality and is ISO-certified.

Meanwhile, the health ministry has sought a detailed report on the "laddus" which are served as "prasadam" at Tirupati temple. What Is The Controversy About Tirupati LaddusThe Tirupati Laddu, also called the ‘Srivari Laddu’, has been the main offering at the temple for more than 300 years. The newly-elected TDP government alleged that the the previous YSRCP government of "adulterating" the laddu. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu claimed that animal fat was used in place of pure ghee, sparking concerns. He further added, "They have behaved like evil... The Prasadam which is offered to god was also impure. Not only are adulterated ingredients used, but they have also used animal fat instead of ghee."Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSRCP hit back at Naidu's accusations, with party president Reddy writing in a post on X, "Chandrababu Naidu committed a great sin by damaging the sanctity of the divine temple Tirumala and the faith of hundreds of crores of Hindus. Chandrababu's comments on Tirumala Prasad are very evil. No one born of human birth speaks such words or makes such accusations." Lab Test Finds Presence Of 'Foreign Fat' In GheeThe ghee was tested at a Gujarat-based National Dairy Board which found traces of "foreign fat", its report revealed by the TDP said. According to the report by National Dairy Development Board's Centre of Analysis and Learning in Livestock and Food, accessed by TIMES NOW, the ghee sample revealed the presence of "beef tallow, pig fat, and fish oil". The sample receipt was recorded on July 9, 2024, and the report was dated July 16.
