Scottie Scheffler has revealed how he likes to annoy former NFL star Tony Romo, who he often plays against.

Romo has asserted himself as one of the best celebrity golfers in the business over the past few years, winning the American Century Championship on three occasions.

The 44-year-old has never been afraid of putting himself up against the very best in the business either, and Romo frequently competes against Scheffler.

Despite the gulf in class between Romo and the professionals that he is competing against, he is willing to put money on the line to up the stakes of his clashes - and Scheffler has opened up on how he likes to get under the skin of his opponent on the course.

Speaking on the , he explained: "Tony always has the most risk in the game. So when he plays good he wins and when he plays bad he loses big because he's got side games with everybody, and he never declines a hammer in wolf; he's a crazy man.

"So when he loses he loses big because if we are playing good we are going to make a bunch of birdies and double the bet and do all that stuff, and there's been a couple of times where he's played and he wrote cheques to guys.

"I never go to the bank, so I just keep it in my little pouch and whenever I have to pay him back, let's say he owes me $1,000, so he writes me a cheque for $1,000. Then the next week I lose $600, I give him the cheque and go, 'Alright, you owe me $400.'

"It is so much fun because he gets so mad! He's like, 'This isn't real money! This isn't fair!'

"I'm like, 'Tony, it has your name on the cheque. This is what you gave me. I'm giving it back to you now.'"

Scheffler went on to admit that he does not have any stashed cheques from Romo at the moment, in what will be music to the ears of the NFL icon given that a victory in their next match will see him pocket some cash rather than humiliatingly seeing one of his previous payouts reduced.
