Sir Rod Stewart's colourful love life has taken yet another twist after it was revealed that Friends actor David Schwimmer once served him divorce papers. The rock legend, now 80, has famously been married three times and is father to eight children. But he was left at the centre of an unlikely Hollywood confession when the actor admitted he played a part in Rod's first split.
Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the sitcom star, known for his role as Ross Gellar on Friends, revealed that as a college student looking for summer work, he landed a job as a process server for his mother, who was a divorce lawyer. One of the high-profile figures he ended up serving was the Maggie May singer. David, 58, recalled: "Thank goodness I've never run into him since, but I served Rod Stewart. I don't even know if he knows. I don't think he knows."
Colbert laughed: "He knows now!" before joking that David should "change his locks" as Rod is "vengeful."
Pressed further, David explained: "One summer after my freshman year in college, I was just looking for work, and my mom said, 'Well, you can be a process server for me.'
"My mom was a divorce lawyer, and I was the guy who would pop out of the bushes and serve you divorce papers."
The actor didn't specify which divorce it related to, but given his age at the time - around 18 - it is thought to have been Rod's 1984 split from actress Alana Stewart.
Rod married model Rachel Hunter in 1990, though the marriage ended in 2006. He later found lasting happiness with Penny Lancaster, tying the knot in 2007.
Rod has eight children in total by five different women. He shares two with Alana, another two with Rachel, and two with Penny.
He also fathered a daughter with ex-girlfriend Susannah Boffey and another with model Kelly Emberg.
The revelation that a global TV star once handed Rod the legal papers that ended one of his marriages adds yet another bizarre twist to the rocker's famously eventful private life.
As Colbert joked to Schwimmer: "You could theoretically run into Rod Stewart sometime! Now he knows to punch you." The
The Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? hitmaker has opened up about the noticeable change in his wife Penny Lancaster since she swapped her high-fashion lifestyle to take on duties as a special police constable.
During a conversation with The Times, the singer, who took to the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury this year, expressed his thoughts on Penny's new career path.
He said: "I have noticed she's got more bossy since she's been a copper. The kids have noticed, we've all noticed. She seems to think she knows everything now."
