Netflix can sometimes feel like a never-ending scroll in search of the perfect binge-watch, with new titles constantly being added to its vast library. However, finding the gems among the multitude can be a daunting task.
If you're currently on the hunt for your next viewing obsession, then you're in luck. Luke Eccleston, who regularly shares his top picks on his @EccyReviews TikTok page, has just revealed a must-watch series.
He recently urged his 352.8k TikTok followers to "stop whatever you're doing" as Netflix has released a new series that he believes "might be one of the best shows of the year".
The series, based on true events, is titled The Monster of Florence and is a four-part limited series. Describing the plot, Luke said: "It follows a real life case, serial killer, who murdered couples in their car over 17 years. A total of eight different couples."
He assured viewers that the first episode will have them completely engrossed. "Now, trust me when I tell you the first episode will have you absolutely hooked. It is so good. Made me binge the entire thing and I honestly couldn't recommend it enough."
Luke insisted that this series simply "can't go under the radar" and implored "everyone" to give it a watch. The Monster of Florence holds a score of 62% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the synopsis reads: "Follows the case of Il Mostro di Firenze, Italy's first serial killer, who eluded justice while terrorising the nation for decades."
Dubbed as the 'Monster of Florence' or 'Il Monstro di Firenze', this unidentified murderer terrorised the outskirts of Florence between 1968 and 1985, targeting couples in secluded areas. The identity of the killer remains a mystery, marking one of Italy's most perplexing unsolved cases.
The Netflix series, crafted by Leonardo Fasoli and Stefano Sollima, begins with the 1982 murder of a young couple found dead in their car, prompting police to revisit a similar case from 1968.
The series delves deeper into the investigation, aided by detectives, journalists, and suspect followers. Director Sollima stated: "There was not a single perpetrator who has been sentenced for all 16 murders".
He further added: "We decided to tell the story from the beginning, when investigators started connecting the dots and realised this might be the act of a serial killer."
Viewers shared their opinions in the comments section. One person exclaimed: "Loved it!" Another commented: "It was so disturbing. A good watch though!" A third viewer wrote: "You're the only person whose recommendations l trust."
