Netflix has just dropped what they hope will be their own rival to 'literally one the best dramas of all time'.
The Spanish made series Rotten Legacy made its debut on the platform on May 16, and it's already drawing comparisons to HBO's acclaimed show Succession created by British writer Jesse Armstrong.
For those missing the intense drama of the hit series since its gripping finale in 2023, this new arrival could well fill the hole.
The Emmy-winning series revolved around the power struggles within the Roy family and their sprawling media empire.
It zoomed in on the Roy offspring, their father, and the cutthroat battle for inheritance and control.
The plot was rife with unexpected developments, such as the family patriarch Logan Roy suffering a stroke in the first season, which led his children to believe their path to power was set.
Succession became a must-watch TV event, and Netflix is undoubtedly hoping Rotten Legacy will ignite similar fervour among viewers. All eight episodes of the series are available at once and come from the creative mind of Carlos Montero, reports .
Montero has previously penned other successful Spanish-language Netflix series like The Mess You Leave Behind and Elite. A sneak peek from What's On Netflix teased: "Rotten Legacy brings Succession level drama to Netflix in May with their answer to HBO's award-winning series."

The plot synopsis reveals why the series is garnering attention. According to the streaming platform, the narrative follows Belen Cuesta (Money Heist, Paquita Salas), Diego Martin (Elite, Velvet), Natalia Huarte (Las cartas perdidas, To Love is Forever), and Maria Morera (Freedom, Cucut) in the roles of Yolanda, Andres, Guadalupe, and Lara respectively.
They are the children and heirs of Federico Seligman's (Jose Coronado) media empire, which he has dedicated his life to building. However, due to illness, Federico is forced to take a leave of absence from his communication companies.
Consequently, he has been sidelined and absent from the boardrooms for two years. Upon his return, he finds that his children, now strangers to him, are steering the business in a direction he abhors.
Federico is determined to do everything in his power to prevent anyone from tarnishing his legacy, even if it means destroying his own children.
At the time of writing, no reviews have been published about the series, so it doesn't yet have a score on Rotten Tomatoes. It remains to be seen whether the series can balance the sharp wit and dramatic tension that Succession maintained throughout its four-season run.
It will also be intriguing to see whether viewers prefer to watch the show dubbed in English or in its original Spanish with subtitles.
Undoubtedly, there are some significant power suits to fill given that it's competing against a series hailed as "literally one the best dramas of all time" and "probably one of the best television series made in many years."
Netflix fans will be over the moon if it manages to live up to these expectations.
Rotten Legacy is streaming on Netflix.
