Mark Selby makes 'pathetic' confession after walking same path as Leicester City

Mark Selby says his snooker is in "dire straights" just like his beloved Leicester City - after his "pathetic" World Championship exit.

Three of the Jester from Leicester's four title triumphs on the sport's biggest stage have coincided with memorable moments on the pitch; getting promoted to the top flight (2014), their famous Premier League win (2016) and their 2021 FA Cup success.

And after the Foxes' relegation was confirmed at the weekend, and legend Jamie Vardy announced his exit from the club, Selby, 41, admitted: "I was pathetic really from start to finish. It was the same old story with me. I try too hard and stop myself playing. It depends how I wake up, if I'm in a good mood I can let myself play and if I don't it's tough.

"I'm a big Leicester fan and we're in dire straights at the minute, a bit like my game.

"We owe a lot to Jamie Vardy. We probably wouldn't have achieved what we achieved without him.

"Fair play to him. He could have left a few times and showed his loyalty to the club."

Woollaston has struggled with terrible fatigue since his Covid vaccine in 2021.

And he said: "I finished at midnight both nights. I was really struggling before the second session.

"I had two or three hours sleep in the afternoon, you shouldn't be doing that at 37.

"I felt so ill, I felt awful. I didn't really want to go out. I just felt sick. My mate and Tatiana [wife] could see how green I was.

"I'm pleased I've got a day off and will rest as much as I can."
