Mohammed Siraj screamed in the face of Ben Duckett after removing the England opener on day four of the third Test at Lord's. With the scores level after the first innings, the hosts were 22-0 when Duckett miscued a pull shot and was caught by Jasprit Bumrah.
Siraj celebrated wildly, approaching the left-hander and roaring loudly at him. Duckett appeared bemused by the send-off, but opted not to react before trudging off. The incident soon went viral on social media though, with the Indian bowler widely criticised for his behaviour.
"Siraj screaming into Duckett's face at close range was disgusting and totally unsportsmanship," said @MagnusOpus33 on X. "Needs to fined for his action after that today."
A number of other fans branded the behaviour "unacceptable." Siraj, 31, now appears in danger of losing a portion of his match fee, with the ICC having clamped down severely on shows of aggression on the field.
The flashpoint follows controversy at the crease between the two sides on Saturday night. With just minutes left in the day's play, Duckett's opening partner Zak Crawley called for the physio after being hit on the hand, with the time taken for his treatment denying the visitors a second over with the new ball before the close.
Indian captain Shubman Gill was furious with Crawlet, accusing him of feigning injury in order to waste time. He then became embroiled in a row with Duckett, with the arguments continuing as the teams left the pitch.
With the series locked at 1-1, it's India now on top in this Test after Siraj followed up the Duckett dismissal by removing Pope. After the decision was overturned following a DRS review, Siraj again shouted loudly, although this time, he stopped short of directing verbals towards the batsman.
Nitish Reddy then removed Crawley to leave England 50-3. It follows Ben Stokes' aside bowling India all out for 387 on Saturday, the same total as England made in their first innings.
