Not many figures can claim to know Football Club better than . So when the former Reds captain makes his pick in singling out his favourite player at the club, people listen.
The 44-year-old played alongside several star names during his 17-year career at Anfield, including Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso, Jamie Carragher, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and many more.
It was rare for Gerrard to connect with a player quite like he did with Luis Suarez, though. The Uruguayan took to life in the Premier League like a duck to water and fired 69 goals in 110 games, including 31 in the 2013-14 campaign.
Suarez's £75million switch to Barcelona and series of disciplinary issues tarnished some of the fine memories from his three-and-a-half-year spell on Merseyside. But in his autobiography 'My Story', published in 2016, Gerrard spoke at length about why he rated the Uruguayan as the most gifted team-mate he has played with in his glittering career.
"It's always difficult to pick out the very best team-mates in a career stretching across seventeen seasons but, when I think about it, the answers soon become clear," Gerrard wrote.
"Four players stand out in my time at Liverpool and with England. The first three all helped me become a better player. They all speak Spanish. Each of them unleashes a wave of emotion in me and in every Liverpool supporter.
"But, ultimately, Luis stands out. He ran and pressed and fought for the ball and ran again - while producing extraordinary moves and sublime goals. There was a sustained period when playing with Luis was like being under a magical spell. He blew me away with his talent.
"I would have loved to have played with Luis when I was a lot younger, and peaking, as we could have been phenomenal together for years. That's my only tinge of regret with Suarez.
"He doesn't go into the treatment room. He's a proper warrior. Suarez edges ahead of Fernando Torres because of that mentality, that robustness which means he doesn't miss a session, or a game.
He scores goals. He creates goals. He's hard and horrible to play against. He's right up for it. You've got a chance of beating anyone in the world with Luis Suarez in your team."
But some eight years later, Gerrard appeared to change his mind. The former Aston Villa boss has since said that Salah is his favourite player at Liverpool - suggesting the Egyptian had taken over the mantle from Suarez in the Reds icon's mind.
When Salah was heavily linked with signing for a Saudi Arabian club in the summer, Gerrard - now in charge of Al-Ettifaq - joked that he didn't want to sign the 32-year-old because it would negatively affect Liverpool - and notably called the winger his 'favourite'.
Gerrard stated in an interview with : "No! No, no - the answer is no [I don't want to sign him] because Mohamed Salah is my favourite player.
"I love Liverpool Football Club, so Mohamed can stay where he is. When he wins more leagues and more Champions Leagues with Liverpool, we'll maybe consider it."
Watching Gerrard and Salah together is a sight that Merseysiders would have loved to have witnessed during his playing career. Alas, when Salah was presented with the opportunity to move to the Kop from FC Basel in 2014, he signed for Chelsea instead.
As fate would have it, he ended up on Merseyside three years further down the line. Now, 359 appearances, 217 goals and eight trophies later, Salah is firmly entrenched in the club's history as their fifth all-time top goalscorer, joining Gerrard in the exclusive 'Liverpool legends' club'.
