Used car buyers looking for an have been urged to take a look at one brand's used models, which are experiencing a surge of listings.
As the , with the latest vehicles offering superior performance and range, many owners are selling their older models.
Alastair Campbell, motoring expert from Marketcheck UK, highlighted that this is the perfect opportunity for drivers to get behind the wheel of an , such as a used .
He explained: "These figures underline a growing availability of , specifically Tesla with much higher new sales than in previous years.
"This combined with lower prices, partly due to Tesla's own price drops in April 2024, and cheap deals (Tesla ran zero percent finance on the Model 3 Long Range RWD for a long period), means more choice and better pricing for used buyers."
One of the world's biggest makers of electric vehicles, Marketcheck UK noted that the number of used Teslas up for sale in the 12 months leading up to October 1, 2024, rose by a staggering 71 percent.
Of these, the most popular vehicle is the Model 3, the company's smallest car, with 1,340 examples for sale on that one day alone. The similar Model Y crossover also experienced a rise in popularity on the market, with 472 being advertised.
However, with an increase in supply comes a fall in price, with the average retail price of a used Tesla falling from £31,115 in 2023 to just £27,991 in 2024. Some earlier examples of the larger Model S are now also available for less than £15,000.
Alastair highlighted that the figures reflect the growth of the Tesla brand on the new car market, but could tail off as electric models from more mainstream brands enter the used car forecourts.
He added: "Teslas were seen as the 'gold' standard of EVs, and these impressive growth numbers reflect the historical growth and speed of sales in new vehicles from 2019 onwards.
"I expect these numbers to get more interesting as we move into a period when more brands were available (VW, BYD, KIA, MG) in the past 3 years, which will lead to a swing towards these makes in the used EV market."
