According to a recent article in the , the Trump team is contemplating a parade on June 14th, coinciding with Flag Day. An insider informed the alternative weekly that the parade would kick off at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, proceed through Washington, DC. , and conclude at the White House.
During a press briefing on Monday, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser acknowledged receiving a parade proposal from the federal government but was uncertain whether it was specifically described as a military parade.
"I don't know if it's been characterized as a military parade, but maybe it has, I haven't been directly involved in it yet. I understand that I think it was Homeland Security maybe the White House reached out to our special events taskforce, which is what most people wanting to do a parade to in the District," Bowser stated, reports
She confirmed that discussions were in the preliminary stages and that the city had been approached about the event. Previously, when Trump floated the idea of a military parade, there were immediate concerns about whether the streets of DC. could handle tanks rolling down them.
"Yeah, military tanks on our streets would not be good," agreed Bowser. "If military tanks were used they should be accompanied by many millions of dollars to repair the roads."
She also expressed that it sounded like a military parade when she heard that organisers wanted it to take place at the Pentagon. She further stated that a march would "require a test" to cross the 14th Street Bridge.
Despite no formal request for support, Arlington County Board Chair Takis Karantonis informed the City Paper that the White House had given the county a "heads up" about a parade on Friday.
"It's not clear to me what the scope of a parade would be," said Karantonis. "But I would hope the federal government remains sensitive to the pain and concerns of numerous [military] veteran residents who have lost or might lose their jobs in recent federal decisions, as they reflect on how best to celebrate the Army's anniversary."
Musk's initiative with DOGE, the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, has led to thousands of federal employees, including veterans, being removed from government payrolls. During his first term, the president had intended to hold a military parade, but the plan was abandoned due to the estimated $92 million cost.
In one of his initial overseas trips as the US President, Trump was a guest of for the 2017 Bastille Day festivities in Paris, where he was captivated by the military parade on display.
