will have the opportunity to revive a failed transfer from three years ago after sending back to . They initially signed the England winger on loan from the Red Devils with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. However, it was confirmed on Tuesday that Sancho had returned to Old Trafford.
The purchase clause would have seen Chelsea pay up to £25million to land Sancho on a permanent basis. They also had the option to remove the clause by paying a £5m penalty fee to United. , giving them scope to pursue a move for another Premier League wide man.

Chelsea may decide to renew their pursuit of Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon, who has established himself among the division's leading wingers. The Magpies will almost certainly want to keep him but Chelsea will have plenty of money to play with.
Sancho returning to United means Chelsea have saved the £25m that would have been spent on his signature, in addition to his wages of around £300,000 per week. This could go towards a move for Gordon, who has previously been a player of interest.
Chelsea are known to be admirers of the 24-year-old, having tried and failed to bring him to Stamford Bridge in 2022. At the time, he was playing for Everton and had been gaining traction as one of the Premier League's most exciting prospects.
Thomas Tuchel, who was managing Chelsea, had been desperate to sign Gordon but Everton rebuffed their approaches with Frank Lampard determined to keep him at Goodison Park.
Gordon opened up on the saga towards the end of last year, saying: "It was quite close, to be honest. I was desperate to go at the time and work with him [Tuchel] especially. I felt like my style would suit his style of play, the way he was playing at Chelsea.
"It was very exciting for me [but] it didn't end up happening. It was a big opportunity for me that didn't end up happening and I'm looking forward to getting to work with him a couple of years later [for England]."
Only time will tell if Chelsea decide to go back in for Gordon, with the Blues having made a fast start to the summer window. Earlier this week, they confirmed the arrival of Sporting midfielder Dario Essugo in a deal worth up to £18m.
Ipswich striker Liam Delap is ready to be announced as their second summer signing, having completed a medical on Monday. He will join the Blues in a £30m switch after they met the full value of his relegation release clause.
