comedy Mrs Brown's Boys has issued a statement on the show's future after furious viewers called for the Irish to be axed. Recent specials of the show have been branded "painful to watch" and had viewers switching off in droves, with its most recent episode airing on Day 2024 to a ratings slump of just 2.2million, down from 3.67million the year before.
Mrs Brown's Boys saw record viewing figures in 2013 for its Christmas special, with 11.4million viewers tuning in, and had 11.2million in January 2013. Year on year, however, figures have continued to fall - and now the show has spoken out about its future in 2025.
The official account posted a snap of the cast, with the caption: "Hi anyone looking to be in the audience for our recordings of a new series of Mrs Brown's Boys click here to apply to be in with a chance." A link to a BBC form was also added, where viewers could submit their application to watch filming in May 2025.
Tickets are allocated by random draw, with the BBC website stating: "You can register at any time until 10pm on Thursday 10 April. You can apply for a maximum of two tickets per recording and if your application is successful you will only receive tickets for one recording."
The show will be recorded at BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay studios in May.
Fans were extremely divided in the comments section, with one enthusiast writing: "Can't wait to see the new series. I watch your show practically every day." Someone else posted: "How has this been recommissioned haha?"
But another fan cheered: "New series?? Not just a Christmas special? I'm excited for this!" And someone else insisted: "I don't even care if it's a six hour drive, if I'm getting tickets I'll make it in two."
The new series will mark Brendan O'Carroll's fifth for the BBC, with the broadcaster promising: "Agnes Brown and the gang from Finglas are back! Everyone's favourite Irish Mammy returns for a brand new fifth series featuring all your favourite characters, so get ready for more slapstick shenanigans this spring!"
