Noticing a strange, chalky taste in your morning cuppa? It's likely just limescale build-up.

That pesky off-white residue clinging to the inside of your kettle is limescale, a mix of calcium and magnesium.

But if you're worried about your health, don't be. Zoe Ralph from Thames Water reassures: "Limescale found in hard water is not harmful to drink, in fact some prefer the taste compared to soft water. Hard water is known to be beneficial for health. Most mineral waters for sale contain minerals such as calcium and magnesium as they are good for your body and immune system."

Though limescale isn't a health hazard, it's an eyesore and can make your appliances work overtime, guzzling more energy and hiking up your bills. But fear not, there's a simple, wallet-friendly fix for limescale

If you're wary of chemical cleaners for descaling and lean towards natural solutions, white vinegar is a household staple famed for its descaling prowess thanks to its acidity. Be warned though, it might leave a peculiar smell and alter the taste of your drinks.

Thankfully, there's another option that promises excellent results without the downsides.

TikTok's clean queen Rachel, from the popular account @cleanwith_rachx, has become an internet sensation after demonstrating how to banish limescale from her kettle in just a few simple steps. Noticing the "desperate" state of her kettle, Rachel outlined her cleaning regime for her 1.9k followers - using the Liquid Coffee Machine and Kettle Descaler by Care and Protect.

Rachel started by filling her kettle with one litre of water, then she added 125ml of the powerful liquid descaler and flipped the switch on. She allowed the kettle to come to a boil and then discarded the mixture, washing the kettle as per the instructions, revealing an impressively clean appliance.

The transformation impressed her loyal fans, with one commenter exclaiming: "Looks insane." Another eager follower said: "Actually need me some of that," while another praised the hack as "an absolute must buy".

If you want to try the cleaning hack out for yourself, you can purchase the liquid descaler from the online retailer Care and Protect for £8.99

You can also purchase Oust Descaler All purpose for £1.60 at your local Tesco or you can find Kilrock Big K Multi Purpose Descaler for £2.99 at The Range.
