Bhubaneswar: In a significant move, IIT Bhubaneswar is set to offer a professional diploma programme in semiconductor technology and chip design in collaboration with Bengaluru-based MOSart Labs, which works on very large-scale integration (VLSI) technology.

The programme seeks to upskill students, making them industry-ready in various specialisations of VLSI, including semiconductor technology, analogue design, digital design, design verification, physical design, layout design, validation, test and measurements, said a release from IIT Bhubaneswar.

It said IIT Bhubaneswar has signed an MoU with MOSart Labs to start the programme, structured into three comprehensive modules. It begins with the launchpad module, providing students with a thorough understanding of the integrated circuit (IC) life cycle and the VLSI industry landscape, along with introductory VLSI classes.

Following this module, students will undergo an entrance exam to qualify for the next phases. Successful candidates will progress to the foundation module, a semester-long programme featuring five courses that cover the fundamentals in different areas of chip design and technology. In addition to teaching the concepts, the focus will be on helping students apply these concepts in design and simulation using state-of-the-art electronic design automation (EDA) tools.

This will be followed by a specialisation module, also a semester-long programme, where students will undertake three courses and a mini project in their chosen area of specialisation. This module allows students to focus on becoming employable by doing industry-level work independently in their chosen field.

“IIT Bhubaneswar is committed to advancing high-impact education through strategic partnerships that bridge academic excellence with industry expertise,” said Director of IIT Bhubaneswar Shreepad Karmalkar.

The programme aims at empowering students with industry-aligned skills, he said.
