Russia To hold BRICS Summit in Kazan from October 22 to 24

Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov announced on Thursday that 32 countries have confirmed their participation in the upcoming BRICS Summit, scheduled to be held in Kazan, Russia, from October 22 to 24.

During a press briefing in Moscow, Ushakov revealed that 24 of these nations will be represented by their heads of state, while eight other countries will send high-ranking officials to the summit. This significant turnout underscores the growing importance of the BRICS economic bloc on the global stage.

The summit is expected to provide a platform for discussing various economic and political issues, as well as strengthening cooperation among member nations. As the host country, Russia aims to enhance collaborative efforts within the BRICS framework, focusing on key areas such as trade, investment, and development.

With the participation of such a diverse range of countries, the Kazan summit promises to be a pivotal event for BRICS, further solidifying its role in international diplomacy and economic partnerships.

Several Southeast Asian nations have accepted an invitation to attend the BRICS Summit, set to take place in Kazan, Russia, from October 22 to 24, 2024. The announcement was made by Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, following the 19th East Asia Summit.

Lavrov highlighted the potential interest that BRICS' approaches to various global issues might hold for participants in East Asia summits, particularly member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He emphasized that "a number of ASEAN countries have been invited to attend the summit, and these invitations have been accepted."

BRICS, originally formed by Brazil, Russia, India, and China in 2006, saw the addition of South Africa in 2011. Recently, on January 1, 2024, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia became full members of the group. As the chair of BRICS for 2024, Russia will host the summit in Kazan, marking the most significant event for the association this year.

Russia has outlined its focus for its BRICS presidency, emphasizing cooperation across three key areas: politics and security, economy and finance, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
