Hungary Rejects Claims of Involvement in Lebanon's Pager Blasts, Denies Manufacturing Roll

The pager devices that caused explosions in several areas of Lebanon were never produced in Hungary, according to the Hungarian government. The company involved has no manufacturing facility in the country, a government spokesperson said on Wednesday.

This clarification came after a Taiwanese pager company, Gold Apollo, claimed it had only licensed its brand. The pagers used by the Hezbollah group, which detonated on Tuesday, were reportedly manufactured by Budapest-based BAC Consulting.

Hungarian authorities have confirmed that the company in question is a trading intermediary with no production or operational site in Hungary. The spokesperson added that the devices involved in the blasts had never entered the country.

In a statement, the Hungarian government said national security authorities would work closely with international partners to further investigate the issue, stressing that the situation posed no security risk to Hungary.

It is suspected that Israel’s Mossad may have planted explosives inside the pagers, which were imported by Hezbollah months prior to the detonations.

The death toll from Tuesday’s blasts has risen to 12, including two children. More than 3,000 others were wounded in the explosions that occurred in Beirut.

On Wednesday, additional explosions in walkie-talkie devices were reported in different parts of Lebanon. According to the health ministry, nine people were killed, and 300 were injured in these fresh blasts.

A child was reportedly killed in one of the blasts during a funeral in Beirut for three Hezbollah members. Additionally, a girl was injured when solar energy systems exploded in homes in several areas of Beirut and southern Lebanon.

These new explosions have heightened confusion and anger among the Lebanese population, who are still grappling with the aftermath of Tuesday’s pager bombings.
