Airstrike Aftermath: Lebanon Faces Drinking Water Shortage Following Israeli Attack

An Israeli airstrike has destroyed a vital water project on the outskirts of Shebaa, a town in southeastern Lebanon, according to local authorities. On Saturday, an Israeli warplane fired an air-to-ground missile at the main exit of the 'Al-Maghara' spring water project, which serves numerous villages in the Al-Arqoub, Hasbaya, and Marjeyoun regions with drinking water.

Sources from the Shebaa Municipality reported that the strike caused an explosion at the project's main exit, leading to water flowing out of the supply networks that serve the affected villages.

The South Lebanon Water Establishment (SLWE), which oversees the project, stated that the facilities were severely damaged due to the Israeli shelling, resulting in their disruption and removal from service. The SLWE is urgently working to coordinate with relevant authorities to ensure the safety of maintenance teams and assess the damage for repairs.

Municipalities in Al-Arqoub and Hasbaya issued a statement urging government agencies, international organizations, and UNIFIL forces to respond quickly to repair the damage caused by the airstrike. They emphasized the need to restore water supply for more than 2,000 families relying on the project.

The Israeli army has not yet commented on the attack. Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that its air force targeted Hezbollah weapons storage facilities and an intelligence command center in the Dahieh suburb of Beirut, citing precise intelligence for these actions.

Since September 23, the Israeli army has been conducting an unprecedented series of airstrikes on Lebanon, dubbed "Arrows of the North," in a significant escalation of tensions with Hezbollah. This operation has included what the IDF described as a "limited" ground operation across the border to weaken Hezbollah's capabilities.
