The festival of Diwali, dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, is coming soon. This major festival is celebrated on the new moon day of Kartik month. This year Diwali will be celebrated on two days i.e. 31 October and 1 November 2024, and most people will prefer to celebrate it on 31 October.
During Diwali, people worship Goddess Lakshmi and seek her blessings for continued good fortune and prosperity. Today, October 18, marks the beginning of the Kartik month, which is considered very auspicious. Since it is Friday, Goddess Lakshmi's favorite day, devotees start cleaning their houses, as it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi resides only in cleanliness. From today until Diwali, certain special rituals are performed every night before sleeping, which are considered an invitation for Goddess Lakshmi to bless the house.

Cleanliness is dear to Maa Lakshmi
Before going to sleep, ensure that the main door is clean, as she does not reside in dirty places. Clean the area without even using a broom if needed. Also, any flowers used in the morning puja should not be left in the puja room overnight and they should be removed before nightfall.
Make sure there is water in the Kalash (sacred vessel)
After the evening Aarti, fill the Kalash or any vessel with clean water, as it is important not to leave the Kalash empty in the puja room.
Burn camphor and cloves
Before going to sleep, burn cloves along with camphor and let the smoke spread throughout the house. It is believed that doing so removes negative energies and increases wealth and prosperity in the house.
