William and Harry will 'never reconcile' because the monarchy needs 'truth and loyalty'

Send Push

Prince William and Kate Middleton publicly wished Prince Harry a "Happy 40th Birthday" on Sunday - leaving people to wonder if the brothers will heal their rift?

The couple retweeted a birthday post from the Royal Family, alongside the celebratory message, despite long-standing rumours of tension between the siblings. The princes were recently reunited at the memorial service for their late uncle Lord Robert Fellowes last month, but reportedly didn’t speak.

According to sources, the pair sat on opposite sides of the church during the funeral and stood "virtually back-to-back" at one point before going their separate ways. This comes after Harry shone light on their turbulent relationship in his bombshell memoir Spare, which included claims that a "piping hot" William shoved him to the floor at Nottingham Cottage.

In another chapter, he alleged that King Charles was forced to stop a row after the funeral of Prince Philip, pleading with his "boys" to not make "his final years a misery". A source told The Times claimed that William is unlikely to reconcile with Harry anytime soon following his portrayal of Kate in the book.

The Duke claimed she made Meghan cry just days before their 2018 wedding, and that Kate encouraged Harry to wear his infamous Nazi Halloween costume. William is yet to give his own public perspective on the matter, but those close to him have reportedly seen the toll the rift has taken on the prince, who is understood to be estranged from his brother.

While it’s understood that Harry and William haven’t spoken since the funeral of Queen Elizabeth back in September 2022, we asked Mirror readers if they think the feuding brothers will ever heal their rift. Around 2,958 people took part in our poll, and a hefty 2,550 were convinced the siblings will not make peace.

Voicing their thoughts in the comments section, one user said: "It is sad but I don't think the brothers will reconcile. Harry is so blind to all the hurtful words he has spoken as well as written about very private moments about Prince William. When trust is lost in a relationship there will always be a question of when will Harry betray his brother and family again."

A second echoed: "Harry has destroyed the trust he had in the RF. His betrayal is unforgivable. I have been betrayed and I haven't seen or spoken to them in 12 years. Some things you just can't sweep under the carpet regardless of your heritage."

"If it was my brother who betrayed me that way on a world stage I would never ever have a word with him again," shared a third, while a fourth confessed: "Some things are beyond forgiving. Blood is thicker than water they say. Really? Until you've lived it you can't comprehend it."

Another posted: "The monarchy must have truth, loyalty, and dedication for them to do their job and survive. There comes a time in life, if someone in the family keeps doing things that upset and cause problems, someone has to stop what is going on. I am sure William loves his brother, but he has an important job to do and cannot allow this to continue."

Meanwhile, 11 percent believe that the royal brothers will make amends, as one person wrote: "Like all siblings we all need each other eventually. If possible I would love to see them back together. It is what Diana would want for her sons, not this torn apart situation they have. The children are missing out on their cousins."

Only three percent have selected the option 'Other' in our poll. Sources have claimed that Harry has been in touch with the King to try to help repair their relationship, which prompted much speculation he was looking to return to the royal fold.
