Star chef has shared a top tip on how to make “Moonblush” tomatoes with any leftovers and fans on are loving it.
The TV chef took to to share her hack for adding sweetness and intensity to but strangely the tip doesn’t actually involve any cooking. "Excess Tomato Alert*,” Nigella posted on her social media, “#RecipeOfTheDay is Moonblush Tomatoes; you put them in a hot oven, turn it off, and let them sweeten and intensify in the residual heat overnight. *Not that you need a glut of tomatoes to make these, but it’s a particularly helpful recipe if you have."
Her followers went wild for the simple hack, with one writing: “This is one of my favourites from your book and I've been doing it with absolute joy every time for years." Another told the famous chef: "I make these all the time - never a wasted tomato in our house." One fan revealed the recipe make a lovely tomato sauce.”
Nigella has for the tasty dish - what she calls her “homespun version” of sunblush tomatoes - on her Instagram account. She says for the best results, halve cherry tomatoes and sprinkle them with herbs, sugar, salt and olive oil before putting them in a hot oven which has been switched off.
Then just leave the tomatoes to dry out and develop flavour and sweetness while you sleep. “The taste of even disappointing tomatoes becomes, transformed this way, bright and intense. Think very essence of tomato. Eat in salads, alongside cheese, in pasta or however you wish,” Nigella wrote on her website.
The cooked tomatoes last in the fridge for up to five days in an airtight container but taste better at room temperature so it is best to remove a few hours before service to allow them to warm up a little. Fans have been enjoying Nigella’s food hacks on her Instagram of late with her tip for gaining thousands of likes earlier this year. “I made this yesterday.. amazing winter warming comfort in a bowl,” said one commenter.
