Netflix has recently unveiled its five-part political thriller, Hostage, featuring Suranne Jones of Gentleman Jack fame, who made a surprising revelation about the show, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The series centres around Jones' character, British premier Abigail Dalton, who finds herself in a terrifying predicament when terrorists kidnap her husband and demand her resignation in exchange for his freedom.
Dalton is faced with an impossible decision between her loyalty to her nation and her family, all while entertaining the French president and attempting to solve a significant NHS drug supply chain problem.
The concept for the show was developed by playwright and Oscar-nominated writer Matt Charman, with Jones also serving as an executive producer.

Who stars in Netflix's Hostage?Abigail Dalton - Suranne Jones
Suranne Jones takes the lead and serves as an executive producer on Hostage. The national treasure is known for a variety of roles, from her early days on Coronation Street to police procedural Scott and Bailey and the affair drama Doctor Foster, which earned her a BAFTA TV Award.
More recently, she's appeared in the Scottish submarine drama Vigil, HBO's popular Gentleman Jack, Sky's Save Me and Maryland.
Vivienne Toussaint - Julie Delpy
Hollywood actress Julie Delpy portrays French President Vivienne Toussaint. The French-American star has a long list of credits, including Richard Linklater's Before trilogy with Ethan Hawke, the Three Colours trilogy, and more recently On the Verge and Meet the Barbarians.
Kofi Adomako - Lucian Msamati
Lucian Msamati, known for his roles in Sky's Gangs of London, Game of Thrones, Conclave, and A Gentleman in Moscow, stars as Kofi Adomako, Dalton's right-hand man.
Matheo Lewis - Corey Mylchreest
Corey Mylchreest, who has previously appeared in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, The Sandman and My Oxford Year, takes on the role of Matheo Lewis, Toussaint's stepson, leaving behind his period costumes.
Dr. Alex Anderson - Ashley Thomas
Ashley Thomas, an actor and rapper who has featured in TV series such as Them, Top Boy, The Night Of, 24: Legacy, The Serpent Queen, and Steven Knight's reimagining of Great Expectations on the BBC, plays Dr Alex Anderson, Dalton's kidnapped medic husband.
John Shagan - Martin McCann
Martin McCann, a Belfast-born star recognised from Blue Lights, The Pacific, Say Nothing and ITV noir Marcella, portrays John Shagan.
Sylvie Anderson - Isobel Akuwudike
Isobel Akuwudike takes on the role of Sylvie Anderson, Dalton and Anderson's daughter, who is left terrified following her father's abduction. This is her first major role after appearing in the TV series Road Trip as Bria.
She will next be seen in The Lady From The Sea at The Bridge Theatre this September, alongside Alicia Vikander and The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln. She graduated with a BA in acting from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2024.
Ayesha - Hiftu Quasem
Scottish actress Hiftu Quasem, known for her role in Prime Video's Ten Percent and appearances in Killing Eve, ITV's Endeavour, and Traces, portrays aide Ayesha in Hostage. ADVoice reports that she began her career with short films like Meet Me By The Water and Tehzeeb, and has also been involved in projects such as The Witcher: Blood Origin, The Rig, The Witcher, Granite Harbour, Lockerbie, and Something in the Water.
Dan Ogilvy - Pip Carter
Pip Carter, who has featured in BBC's Wolf Hall, Industry, Spectre, The Crown and New Worlds, plays Dan Ogilvy, a member of Dalton's cabinet in the series.
Tristan - Josh Barrow
Josh Barrow, a rising star who has appeared in Temple, Vera and 403 Forbidden, is another member of Dalton's team, playing the character Tristan.
Zadie - Ami Okumura Jones
Ami Okumura Jones takes on the role of aide Zadie. She has previously appeared in the stage production of My Neighbour Totoro, played Mieko Yoshi in EastEnders and had roles in detective drama Rebus and Art Detectives.
Hostage is her most significant project to date.
Adrienne Pelletier - Jehnny Beth
French musician and actress Jehnny Beth, known as the frontwoman of the post-punk band Savages and for her roles in Anatomy of a Fall, Ex Machina, Split, and Stranger, plays Toussaint's advisor Adrienne Pelletier.
Saskia Morgan - Sophie Robertson
Sophie Robertson, known for her roles in Miss Scarlet and the Duke and The Athena, portrays Saskia Morgan, Matheo's girlfriend. She has also showcased her talent in Pandora, Flack, Derry Girls and The Irregulars.
Notably, she co-wrote and starred in the play Posh Girls with fellow actress Harriet Chomley earlier this year.
Kathy Macintyre - Sara Powell
Sara Powell takes on the role of government minister Kathy Macintyre. Audiences may recognise her from Holby Blue, The Killing King, The House Across the Street, Vanity Fair, and Silent Witness.
Simon Kingsley - Fode Simbo
Fode Simbo steps into the shoes of Time journalist Simon Kingsley. He previously shared the screen with co-star Jones in Vigil and has had parts in Summer of Rockets, Star Wars series Andor, and The Reckoning.

Max Dalton - James Cosmo
Esteemed Scottish actor James Cosmo plays Max Dalton, Dalton's father. Known for his roles in Game of Thrones, Braveheart, Troy, Nightsleeper, Jack Ryan and Karen Pirie, he recently starred in Fear opposite Line of Duty's Martin Compston.
Thomas Mercer - Gerald Kyd
South African-born star Gerald Kyd portrays secret service agent Thomas Mercer. He is recognised for his recent hit in Prime Video's The Assassin, where he starred alongside Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore.
His other credits include Malory Towers, The Swarm, The Split and he will next be seen in Legends.
General Livingston - Mark Lewis Jones
Mark Lewis Jones, the Welsh actor known for his roles in Game of Thrones, Chernobyl, Gangs of London, The Crown, Baby Reindeer, The Red King, Outlander and ITV's Out There, takes on the role of General Livingston.
Elias Vernier - Vincent Perez
Swiss star Vincent Perez, who has featured in The Edge of the Blade, La Frontera, Shantaram, The Aeronauts and is set to appear next in The Queen of Fashion, portrays Elias Vernier.
