A woman was left flabbergasted after her neighbour took it upon herself to open her parcel without consent – and then acted as if she'd done nothing wrong. Opening somebody else's mail is illegal, so the resident wasn't best pleased to learn her package had been rifled through.
The woman explained: "I'm 19 and living in this building has been fine until recently. A package meant for me got delivered to my neighbourby mistake. Instead of just knocking or leaving it by my door, she straight up opened it". She shared on Reddit that she'd opened "nothing super personal," but she said it still felt "weird" that her neighbour had done that.
She seethed: "She then handed it over like nothing was wrong, with the box already ripped open and my stuff inside. No apology or anything."

The teenager then tried to tell her neighbour that she'd appreciate it if she didn't actually open her parcels in the future. However, instead of apologising, she got "defensive" and claimed it was "confusing" because it arrived at her door.
But, to that, the woman whose parcel had been opened said: "Like… read the label? It literally had my name on it in big letters".
She continued: "It's just made things super awkward now. I don’t even want to see her in the hall. It feels creepy knowing she didn’t think twice about tearing into something that wasn’t hers and acting like I’m the rude one for asking her not to do it again".
Even though the teen is unhappy with the person next door, commenters reassured her that it could have been an innocent mistake.
In the comments, someone pointed out that they'd done the same thing as the woman without realising the parcel wasn't actually theirs.
They wrote: "I've accidentally opened a package at my house that was someone else’s. It happens. But if it’s a pattern of behaviour, then that’s different".
Someone else pointed out that if they'd done that, though, they probably would have "apologised" for their error, rather than becoming defensive.
Another added, "The same thing happened to me! I was misdelivered a package and didn't check the address. I opened it, thinking it was something I had ordered for our grandson's birthday! I was mortified! So embarrassed! The box had cleaning products, not a mini monster truck!
"My husband returned it to our neighbours with a heartfelt apology and a handwritten note from me. Our neighbours were very understanding! They had just moved into their house and had no idea who we were!"
Somebody defended the neighbour who had opened it, however, saying: "I expect my mail to be in my mailbox. If someone else’s mail is in there, it definitely isn’t my mistake".
