Miley Cyrus says mother advised her to be with 'wrong guy' because they were hot

Miley Cyrus has claimed her mother gave her bad advice when it came to dating. And now, the former child star turned singer has confessed she has had to learn to find a partner who treats her with respect.

Miley, 32, claimed her mum had told her to stay with the “wrong guy” because they were “hot”. The star, best known for her role with the Disney Channel before her breakout singing career, opened up on her mum and manager Tish Cyrus-Purcell's advice.

She did so while starring alongside her mum and sisters Noah and Brandi for the latest cover of The Cut. And Miley admitted that while her mum is her go-to person for business advice, she confessed she no longer does when it comes to relationships.,

Miley told the magazine: “Mom’s always wanted me to stay with the wrong guy ’cause they’re hot. I ended up with a person (drummer Maxx Morando) who means a lot to me and treats me really well and respects me."

She went on: "I had to learn that the hard way because my mommy taught me the wrong way and then I had to learn the right way by myself.

“I had to find someone who treats me with respect and then Mom never really put that on the top three of her must-haves. Mom was like, they need to be tall. My man’s hot as hell too. But my man also respects me.”

Prior to being with Morando, Miley had been linked with a number of high profile stars. It's not known if any were who her mum was talking about.

She was romantically linked with pop star Nick Jonas, singer Cody Simpson and was also married to actor Liam Hemsworth.

The pair tied the knot in 2018. The ceremony came just months after they lost their Malibu home to a California wildfire.

However, their coupling wasn't to last and they split up the following summer beforetheir divorce was finalised in January 2020. Miley's mother was previously married to country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. However, the pair reportedly finalised their divorce in April 2022.

Tish went on to marry Australian actor Dominic Purcell in August 2023. Billy Ray is currently dating actress Liz Hurley.

Liz recently admitted she is in love with boyfriend Billy Ray and looks forward to snuggling up to him by the TV at night. The duo have been officially an item for five months.

During an interview to promote her new Channel 4 series The Inheritance, Liz was asked about their surprise relationship. Asked about the year she has had so far she highlighted fronted a breast cancer charity campaign for Estee Lauder and then added: “I also fell in love with my boyfriend. So yes, a good year.”
