An awkward kiss between former president and wife at the Trump and Vance rally in Madison Square Garden on October 27 left /X users cringing.

A video of the frosty exchange went viral and prompted choice comments from members of the public disturbed by the encounter. Married since January 22, 2005, the pair's lack of chemistry has sparked speculation online, with one user likening them to "actors without chemistry" and others suggesting that Melania's appearance might have been a paid gig rather than her own choice.

Marking Melania's first speech this election cycle at a Trump event, the online crowd was unimpressed. One tweet from @NikkisBubble highlighted the "awkward non-kiss" and " hug" which left social media with visual discomfort.

They wrote: "Did I not say get ready for the awkward non-kiss, weird hug between Donald Trump and . These two are fooling no one. #TrumpRally at Madison Square Garden."

Social media was filled with speculation after Melania and Donald Trump's public display, with one user commenting: "Barely kisses him. Awkward hug. Tries to pull away but Trump holds on then pats her hand, trying to visually assure everyone she's with him. Watch the body language from both. They're like actors with no chemistry."

Another weighed in and related her disinterest to that of greeting a father-in-law, adding: "She kissed in him like she was greeting her father-in-law or a friend's husband. Air kisses."

The original poster speculated about financial incentives and suggested Melania may have been paid to appear, and kiss, her husband. "I think she was paid enough for a lip kiss but he's so used to not getting those he didn't know what to do," they wrote.

Others labelled their kiss as "fake," and comments flew in suggesting there was no passion or interest between the two. One wrote: "That's got to be the most passionless 'kiss' I've ever seen between two married people."

While the lacklustre kiss and hug sparked debates, it was Melania's hand pat from Trump that really caught attention, with a user writing: "The pat on the hand is what did it for me."

Some even suggested the couple looked as if they hadn't seen each other for months, and they were mocked by those suggesting they appeared to be "complete strangers"

One person added: "They absolutely haven't talked in months. Look like complete strangers," while another bluntly added: "He has no true love. This is a business transaction, there is no love there and anyone with common sense can see it."
