BBC quietly adds classic horror film with 93% Rotten Tomatoes score

A legendary horror flick that viewers have described as "beautiful, yet unpleasant" can now be streamed for free.

Don't Look Now features Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie as the grieving couple Laura and John Baxter. The 1973 masterpiece chronicles the pair's journey to Venice following their daughter's heartbreaking death, where John undertakes the restoration of a church.

During their stay, they meet a psychic who reveals their deceased child is attempting to make contact, leading John to witness eerie apparitions that gradually persuade him of the supernatural connection.

Through its deep dive into bereavement and the human psyche, Don't Look Now swiftly achieved cult status within the horror genre, and viewers can now access it via BBC iPlayer, reports the Express.

The acclaimed film boasts an impressive 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, backed by over 10,000 user reviews.

One admirer commented: "Haunting in both the psychological and emotional sense, as the feeling of grief is felt in every scene of this sad film. We are constantly wondering if there is a life after death as the characters struggle to come to grip with their losses. But, when the scares do appear, they come slow and steady which give us a foreboding feeling."

Another praised: "Don't Look Now is a great mystery film that is unpredictable from beginning to end." A third viewer noted: "Beautiful, yet unpleasant, thriller. Sutherland and Christie do fantastic work here, and the cinematography is excellent."

Back in 2015, Sutherland didn't mince his words regarding the rumoured remake plans for Don't Look Now by StudioCanal, expressing his disdain to Metro.

Seething, he told Metro the remake is "bulls**t" and that the people behind it ought to be "ashamed of themselves".

He said: "Don't embarrass yourselves by participating in it. It's bulls**t. It was a piece of work indelibly written by Nicolas Roeg.

"Why would they do it? It's just people trying to profit off the back of something that's very beautiful.

"It's shameful. They should be ashamed of themselves."
