In just seven years, EkoStay has become India’s most recognisable name in the premium vacation rental space, clocking over 1.5 million guests hosted, and managing 150+ handpicked villas and homestays across 15+ sought-after destinations. Launched in 2018 by four driven founders Husain Khatumdi, Varun Arora, Sohail Mirchandani, and Zishan Khan the brand has been instrumental in shaping the country’s structured homestay ecosystem, especially for discerning city dwellers seeking curated, design-led getaways.
EkoStay’s journey began in Lonavala with just 10 properties. By 2019, the company had expanded into Goa and other key weekend destinations, growing to 23 properties across 4 cities. The pandemic-induced travel shift in 2020 became a strategic inflection point EkoStay doubled its inventory, bringing its portfolio to 40 properties in 6 destinations, and reinforcing its place as a go-to staycation brand.
Recognition soon followed with the brand growing to 70 properties across 10 locations, including hill stations and coastal escapes. A key pivot came in 2022 with the brand’s entry into the luxury villa segment and new markets in North and South India, closing the year at 90 properties in 12 destinations.
In 2023, EkoStay diversified into the food vertical, further enhancing the guest experience, while scaling operations to 110+ homes. 2024 marked a year of consolidation and digital leap; the company rebranded and launched its own proprietary service app to streamline on-ground experience, while reaching its current milestone of 150+ properties in 15+ destinations.
Commenting on the brand’s trajectory, Varun Arora, Co-Founder & CEO, said: “We’ve always aimed to bridge the gap between unorganised homestays and luxury hospitality. What sets EkoStay apart is our obsession with guest experience, property transformation, and homeowner satisfaction. From renovating 40+ homes to serving over 1.5 million guests, our journey has just begun.”
With a sharp focus on growth, operational efficiency, and tech integration, EkoStay is poised to deepen its footprint across India and venture into newer lifestyle verticals in the months ahead all while holding true to its mission of offering “hotels ka comfort, ghar ka feeling.”
