News: The suicide of Gautam, a first year MBA student of IP University, has shocked his family. The family alleges that the university's negligence is responsible for this incident. They say that if Gautam had done something wrong, then why was the family not informed in time. Even on the day of the incident i.e. Sunday, no information was given by the university, due to which the family is angry and sad. On Monday, after the postmortem, the police handed over Gautam's body to the family, which was taken to Bihar via ambulance. Gautam was originally a resident of Vaishali, Bihar and had come to Delhi only a month ago.
The family accused the university of negligenceGautam's father Vinod Kumar Sinha said emotionally that even after such a big incident, he was not informed by the university. He last spoke to Gautam on Sunday afternoon, and at that time he seemed very upset. On the phone, he only asked about his father's health and disconnected the call after some time. After this last conversation, the family had no idea that Gautam was going to take such a step.
Last conversation and Gautam's WhatsApp message
Shortly before the incident, Gautam sent a message on his family's WhatsApp group, in which he wrote, "Papa-mummy please forgive me. I am innocent. I have been falsely implicated. The warden is harassing me. Papa, I am committing suicide." The family was shocked after reading this message. They immediately called Gautam several times, but he did not pick up the phone. Meanwhile, the family informed their relatives living in Noida about this and requested them for help.
The family is saddened by not getting information on timeWhen Gautam's relatives reached the hostel at night, they came to know about the incident. Gautam's father said that whether it is a big college or school, when a student does something wrong or is in trouble, his family is usually informed. But Gautam was being harassed by the warden for the last three days and no information was given by the university. If they had been informed on time, perhaps they could have saved their son.
Allegations of torture by wardenGautam's fellow students also said that he was a calm and hardworking student. He had no habit of consuming drugs and neither did he show any kind of indiscipline. The harassment by the warden is believed to be the main reason behind his suicide. The family also says that if the university administration had taken action at the right time and informed the family, then perhaps Gautam would have been alive today.
Gautam's tragic death has exposed the negligence of the university administration and their indifference towards student safety. This case is not only a personal tragedy of a student, but it also highlights the need for mental health of students and responsible attitude of the university administration.
